A Flawed Coin of
Carausius
RIC 319. Camulodunum. Aes or billon antoninianus, undated A.D. 287 -
293.
obv. IMP C CARAVSIVS P F AVG. Rad. r., draped and cuirassed.
rev. PAX AVG. Pax stg. l., holding olive-branch and transverse sceptre.
Mint marks: S - P in fields, MC in ex.
An unusual coin. It has been suggested to me that this was caused
by the moneyers having the amalgam too cold whilst casting the flan.
This then cracked on striking. Possible? I must get around to posting
this coin and inviting suggestions on its origins.
