Roman Republican Coinage

Roman Republican Coinage Roman Republican Coinage
Michael H. Crawford (Cambridge, 1975)
The most important single work of reference for Republican coins; it replaces the older catalogues of Sydenham and Babelon. Each issue is numbered and references given to the earlier catalogues, or to the major collection holding the type-specimen. Following each entry is a numismatic and historical discussion of the issue. The work commences with a detailed discussion of the chronological issues and the evidence followed in the establishment of the catalogue framework. The work also includes a series of important studies on issues of Republican coinage. The only minor fault is the paucity of the illustrated material.
