Discussion:
RIC 155b cites the coin on the left for Severus draped with aegis,
whilst RIC 155a cites the coin on the right for bust draped in
lion-skin. It is clear, even from the poor-quality scan I was able to
obtain of the latter coin, that the same obverse is shown on both
coins. BMCRE and Calicó prefer to describe this cloak as a
lion-skin, but the absence of any leonine characteristics, head, claws,
etc., which often accompany the lion-skin on busts of Hercules, has
led me to assume that aegis is the correct description.
